This is a series of photography where I am exploring the division between Mexico and the United States. For this, I'm focused on capturing the surroundings of the border, the pain, the struggles and hopes around this area. The intention of this story telling photography is to share my perspective and create awareness about this topic. Through this photography I invite you to think about the immigrants and the dreams they once had but never reached.
There is a 30 foot tall fence that divides families and dreams, there have been around 8,000 deaths all around the border and I don't want this to be forgotten. This project is dedicated to all our brothers and sisters who one day were looking for the American dream but never reached it, for those who can’t go back home and for those who made a lot of sacrifices along the way and finally made it.
I’m sharing the sacrifices and also the pain that comes when looking for a dream, some people have tried to cross the border illegally and died trying to find new opportunities, some other people cross legally but in order to reach a dream they must sacrifice a lot more than just a home, they leave behind pieces of themselves in order to pursuit a dream.
I’m raising the voice of those who can't, for those who were close but couldn’t reach the dream and for those that we lost in the way.
All of the pictures that were part of this project were taken around the border of San Isidro and Calexico. I am exploring this topic very deeply but with a lot of love and respect. It took me months to accomplish this series because I'm not looking to expose people, I'm looking to commemorate their lives and do something beautiful and meaningful for those who can feel represented by this project.
Light a candle for those who couldn’t reach the American dream.
Light a candle for our brothers and sisters we lost.
Light a candle for those who left everything behind.
